Update on Phase II (The Village) of Playa Vista – 10.16.09
October 16, 2009 – 7:30 amOn Wednesday afternoon, at the City of Los Angeles public hearing held at LMU Campus, there was a large turnout of Playa Vista residents and other local groups in support of the for the final approval for the second stage of Playa Vista, which includes The Village, a vibrant neighborhood center with retails stores and restaurants, as well as additional community amenities, parks, and homes.
As a background, The Village Environmental Impact Report (EIR) was originally approved by the City Council in 2004 and was upheld in its entirety by the Superior Court. Longstanding project opponents sued, and while the trial court upheld The Village project, a state appellate court ruled an additional analysis of three issues (land use, archaeological impacts and wastewater,) before the project could proceed. That analysis has occurred, and the Final EIR has been published. Now, the City of Los Angeles is conducting public hearings to consider re-certification of the EIR and re-approval of the Village. The October 14th, Wednesday hearing is the first of these hearings.
