Playa Vista Neighborhood News – 3.5.2010

March 5, 2010 – 7:25 am

There have been many new developments in recent Playa Vista community news, so I thought I would share some of the updates with you and report more about the real estate market next week.

Wednesday night, more than 350 Playa Vista residents united in a tremendous show of encouragement for Councilman, Bill Rosendahl, as he pledged his support for the Village plan, already unanimously approved by the City Planning Commission.  Next Tuesday, the city council will cast its first vote on the Village and I will share all the exciting new developments with you as they unfold.

One other thrilling development in the neighborhood is that the Los Angeles Unified School District has taken the next step in establishing a new K-5 elementary school.  According to the latest issue of The News of Playa Vista, Los Angeles, “On January 22, 2010, LAUSD became the owner of the four-acre school site adjacent to the Sports Park. LAUSD is on schedule to begin construction this spring. The school expects to open its doors in 2012.

The support of Playa Vista’s residents has been crucial to bringing a new school to the community.  Throughout 2009, residents repeatedly demonstrated their support for the school at various public meetings before the LAUSD Board, LAUSD staff, and representatives of the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), which must approve all new public schools in California. DTSC approved the Remedial Action Plan for the site in December 2009, which was a necessary step for LAUSD to move forward with school construction.

LAUSD has designed Playa Vista’s new 650-seat school to be a model of green building and educational development within the District. The school will take advantage of its location adjacent to the Ballona Freshwater Marsh and the Riparian Corridor by creating a curriculum focused on the environment. The school site is just a short walk from the Playa Vista Library, which will be another important resource for students. An educational partnership with Loyola Marymount University is also in the works.”

I am always happy to speak to you with more detail, should you like more information on the topics discussed above, properties listed below, or more information about Playa Vista real estate.

Enjoy your weekend!
